Waiting List Information

Waiting Lists

  • Waiting lists are for students who would like a bedspace that is not currently available.
  • As bedspaces become available, BYU Campus Accommodations will offer them to students on the waiting list according to their waiting list position and preferences.
  • Positions on the waiting list are based on the completion date of a student’s BYU admissions application. Students do not gain priority based on when they request to be on the waiting list.
  • Positions on the waiting list are based on the following:
    • New Admits and deferred missionaries who have not completed the Student Housing Policy two-semester requirement - Positions on the waiting list are based on the completion date of a student’s BYU admissions application. Students do not gain priority based on when they add themselves to the waiting list.
    • Continuing Students - Positions on the waiting list are based on the date and time students submit their housing application.
  • Students who request to be on the waiting list are not guaranteed an on-campus bedspace.
  • BYU Campus Accommodations is unable to tell students their position on the waiting list.
  • Students with more specific waiting list preferences are less likely to match with a bedspace opening.

Waiting List Availability Dates

  • Students do not need to add their names to the waiting list right at the time listed below as their positions on the waiting list will be based on the date they submitted their completed BYU admission applications. The waiting list for each agreement period will open beginning on the following dates:

    • Spring 2024, Summer 2024, and Fall-Winter 2024-25: If you are not able to obtain a bedspace in your preferred housing area on your contracting date and time, you may add your name to the waiting list through the housing application.

  • The waiting list for each agreement period for 19 and Over and Returning Residents will be open beginning on the following dates:

    • Spring 2024, Summer 2024, and Fall-Winter 2024-25: If you are not able to obtain a bedspace in your preferred housing area on your contracting date and time, you may add your name to the waiting list through the housing application.

Using the Waiting List

  • Students may add themselves to the waiting list through the housing application.
  • Students may update their preferences by resubmitting their housing application (the student will retain their previous waiting list position).
  • When the student’s waiting list position has been reached and a bedspace matching the student’s preferences becomes available, the student will receive a message via each of the email addresses and phone numbers provided in their waiting list submission.
  • Notification of openings are sent Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Students have six hours from the time they receive notification of an opening to accept a bedspace on hold and complete the agreement.
  • If an agreement for the bedspace is not completed in the allotted time, the hold on that bedspace will expire. Students cannot complete an agreement for an expired bedspace.
  • Students are removed from the waiting list when their hold expires. Students with expired holds must resubmit their Waiting List Request in order to be considered for additional openings (there is no limit to the number of times students can resubmit their Waiting List Request).
  • Tenants who submit a Waiting List Request do not forfeit their current agreement unless they contract for a new bedspace, in which case their previous agreement and payments transfer over to the new agreement.

Group Requests

  • For 19 and Over students or Returning Residents with group requests, send a message through your Housing Message Board under your Account Tab. The subject line should be "Group Request." include the NetIDs of all group members. Group requests will be assigned based on contracting dates and times and availability.
