Moving In
Tenants are financially responsible for any damage to the premises, furnishings, and/or appliances. To avoid
damage charges, tenants should adhere to the guidelines while decorating dwellings.
Tenants may submit a request for a dwelling transfer.
If married, tenants may choose which spouse's account gets billed each month; however, the billed account
must be the account of a tenant who is enrolled in classes at the university with a minimum of 9 Undergraduate
credits or 2 Graduate credits. All rental payments must be made to the currently billed account.
Tenants can change whose account is the billed account.
Tenants are welcome to bring their own computers, or they may rent one from the Office of Information
Technology. Computers are leased on a first-come, first-served basis. For further information, visit the
computer rental page on the
Office of Information Technology website.
A high-speed wireless BYU Internet connection is provided to each dwelling. Tenants provide their own wireless
access point/router. Tenants have access to the Internet at large as well as to BYU's campus computing
services, which include university library and registration databases, etc.
Tenants may view availability and descriptions of Campus Television and other services by visiting the
Housing Technology Services page on the
Office of IT website. If tenants have any technical problems
or access questions they should call 801-422-4000 or visit the
Office of IT website.
Tenants may seek exceptions or alternatives to the established guidelines and contract terms (extension of move-out
time, guests, etc.) by submitting a petition. The available petitions are found in the Petitions and Forms
section of the "Families" tab. Once the petition is completed and submitted, the Housing Review Board will review the request
and notification of their decision will be sent to the tenant through the message board under the "Account" tab.
Tenants may check in at the area's housing office after 10:00 am on the effective date of the rental
agreement. When checking in, tenants will be given two keys to the dwelling. A Community Aide in the area
will give the tenant a mail key and review housing policies and information. The Wymount Terrace office is
closed on weekends and holidays. The Wyview Park office is closed on Sundays and some holidays. Neither office
can accommodate check-ins on weekends and some holidays. Tenants should contact the area office if unable to
check in during business hours to arrange for a proxy (a family member or friend) to pick up their keys and
move-in packet.
Tenants of Wymount Terrace: In the event a tenant is locked out of their dwelling during Wymount
Terrace business hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 am- 5:00 pm), tenants are
welcome to check out a loaner key. This loaner key must be returned to the
Wymount Terrace Office the same business day to avoid a $1.00 per day
charge.
If the lock out occurs after Wymount Terrace Office hours, tenants can
obtain a loaner key to their dwelling at the Heritage Halls Central
Building Office during Heritage Halls office hours: Monday-Friday 5:00
pm - midnight, Saturday 7:00 am - midnight, and Sunday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Tenants are encouraged to contact University Police at 801-422-2222 for
assistance between the hours of midnight and 8:00 am Monday-Saturday and
after 10:00 pm on Sundays until the office opens again on Monday morning.
Tenants of Wyview Park: In the event a tenant is locked out of their dwelling during Wyview Park
business hours (Monday-Saturday 7:00 am-midnight), tenants are welcome to
check out a loaner key. This loaner key must be returned to the Wyview Park
Office the same business day to avoid a $1.00 per day charge.
If the lock out occurs after office hours, Monday-Saturday midnight-7:00
am or on Sundays, tenants are encouraged to contact University Police at
801-422-2222 for assistance.
Tenants who have lost a key, should contact the area office to have the
dwelling rekeyed as soon as possible. The tenant will be assessed a
rekeying fee to change the lock and to issue new keys. If the tenant would
like an additional dwelling key, one may be purchased for $3.00 at the area
housing office. It can take three to five business days to receive an
additional dwelling key. If the tenant would like an additional mail key,
one may be purchased at the area housing office for $2.50. All dwelling and
mail keys issued to the tenants must be returned to Student Family Housing
at the time the rental agreement ends. Any keys missing to the dwelling or
mail box at the end of the rental agreement will have the locks changed and
the tenant’s student account will be assessed a lock change out and rekey
fee.
The discount for the
laundry facilities
is setup automatically. If tenants experience any problems with the laundry discount, contact the

agreement and must be paid before keys may be picked up. After that, rental
payments are due on the first day of each month. A $30 late fee is assessed
after the tenth of the month. See more information about
rates and late fees.
Residence Life recommends tenants purchase renter's insurance. As a
condition to the leasing of the premises, tenants agree to release Brigham
Young University from liability for personal belongings that are damaged or
stolen in Student Family Housing, even if the loss arises from the
negligence of BYU.
Glue, tape, and other adhesives can damage surfaces in the dwelling.
Tenants must be able to easily remove items without damage to the surfaces.
Tenants will be charged for damage resulting from use or removal of these
items.
