2007 Average Rental Rates

Singles' Housing

• Rents are per person per month
• Average rental rates for singles are calculated from rents advertised in the BYU Housing Guide. Most rent rates do not include gas and electric utility charges (see below for utility costs).
• Shared bedrooms have two or more persons per bedroom.
• Private bedrooms have one person per bedroom.
• Large complexes are apartment buildings or complexes with six or more dwelling units. Small complexes are apartment buildings with less than six units.
• Condominiums are individually owned dwelling units in a multi-unit building.

Family Housing

• Rents are per apartment per month.
• Average rental rates for families are calculated from rents advertised in the BYU Off-Campus Housing Guide.  Most rent rates do not include gas and electric utility charges (see below for utility costs).
• Many three-bedroom dwelling units are houses or condos; a few two bedroom dwellings are houses or condos.

Singles' Housing

Most renters pay for gas, electricity, and basic telephone services in addition to rent. A few pay for water, sewer, and garbage services as well. A few renters do not pay any utility bill because the landlord includes the cost in the rent. The average utility bill for those who share a dwelling unit and utility costs with other singles is listed below. Your actual cost may vary depending on the insulation and appliances in the unit, weather, time of year, and personal usage practices.
