Newly Admitted Students Housing Checklist
2024-25

  • Living on-campus is one of the best ways for newly admitted students to build friendships and get acquainted with the life of a BYU college student. We encourage newly admitted students to read through all of the information provided on this page as well as on the webpages that are linked.

  • On-Campus Housing is available to all matriculated students regardless of marital status or age.
    • 19 and Over and Returning Residents apartments, or floors at Helaman Halls, are for those who turned 19 prior to January 1, 2024 and returning residents who have lived on-campus during the Fall and/or Winter semester of a previous academic year.

  • Newly admitted students should refer back to this page frequently for updated information.

Student Housing Policy

  • For their first two semesters as BYU students, all single undergraduate students must live (1) in BYU On-Campus Housing, (2) in BYU Off-Campus Contracted Housing, or (3) with qualifying family members. This applies to all single BYU undergraduate students, including transfer students, who are matriculated, meaning they have been admitted to a degree-seeking program. Here is a link for more information about the student housing policy.

Submit On-Campus Housing Application

  • Students seeking On-Campus Housing must complete a On-Campus Housing Application with questions regarding housing preferences and other related matters before completing an agreement.
    • The completion of the housing application is integral to BYU's preparation for accommodating students, which will streamline the housing process for all individuals. Filling out the housing application does not mean BYU has reached a decision regarding the student's admission status, nor does it influence BYU's admission decision-making process. In order to complete a housing application, a person must first submit an admission application to BYU.
    • Students do not need to wait until they are admitted to submit the housing application.

Preferred Roommate Requests

  • Preferred roommate requests must be submitted via "Step 5: Preferred Roommate" on the On-Campus Housing Application.
    • It is anticipated that roommate preference requests will be due by February 25, 2024 for all newly admitted students.
    • Preferred roommate requests may or may not be able to be met. The likelihood of pulling in your preferred roommate will be included when you receive your contracting date and time message.
    • Newly admitted students should pay special attention to the “Select a Preferred Roommate” instructions.
    • Preferred roommate requests will not be accepted after February 25, 2024.
    • Roommate preferences must be mutual to be honored.
    • Should either preferred roommate request to terminate their housing agreement or ask for the preferred roommate link to be removed, one or both roommates will be at risk of their housing agreement being canceled by Campus Accommodations.
    • Preferred roommate requests are not available for Spring or Summer Terms or Winter Semester only. If your preferred roommate is able to place a bedspace on hold for you for Fall-Winter 2024-25, it will not change your contracting date and time for Spring or Summer Terms.

  • Newly admitted students will receive a message on their message board located under the “Account” tab indicating their contracting date and time for Spring, Summer, and Fall-Winter.

Contracting

    • Assigned contracting dates and times are based on when completed admission applications were submitted to the university.
    • The admission application timestamp will not be modified.
    • A contracting date and time does not obligate students to choose a bedspace in On-Campus Housing, nor is it a guarantee of space availability on their particular contracting date.
    • A $100 deposit and a $50 processing fee are due upon completion of the agreement.

Waiting List

  • Newly admitted students who are not able to obtain their desired housing area on their contracting date and time may request to be on the waiting list on the housing application.
    • Positions on the waiting list will be based on the date students submitted their completed admission applications.
